After cutting the necessary pieces out for some reason I shut the site down and started sewing by memory. Big mistake. I have no idea what made me sew both the main fabric and the lining fabric together especially when I have made enough bags to know that they are sewn separately, one inserted into the other, turned right way around then sewn together around the top.
Anyway after much unpicking and ironing my first fabric bin is completed.
I like to use a light coloured fabric for lining as it makes it easier to see what is lurking at the bottom and seeing that pink is the rainbow scrap colour for this month it fitted in perfectly. I did make one adjustment to the pattern and that was to sew a small triangle across each corner in order to make the bin corners stand up straighter as they tended to flop outwards even though I used a very stiff lining.
Back soon and in the meantime
Happy
sewing all
Grrr! Don’t you hate that! The final product did turn out well in the end. Worth persevering with.
ReplyDeleteOh sew annoying but pleased you had a great finish.....
ReplyDeleteI think we all sew from memory at some stage at other and then learn not to do it!! Well done on the finish, it looks great.
ReplyDeleteThe bin is great... and it looks like you learnt some new tricks... or nontricks???
ReplyDeleteHugz
Your new bin looks great and I REALLY love that outer fabric which you've used. Now that you've figured out the trick to making this one, you can go ahead and make lots more.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new PINK fabric bin, Karen!
ReplyDeleteWell done! I need to read 3 times lol.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen what a bummer ,but on the up you won't make that mistake again. I also love your new bin ,I am glad you preserved with it,well done xx
ReplyDeleteThat's a cute little fabric bin, I really need to make some of those myself.
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy little basket. You won't remember later that it gave you such a hard time while you were sewing.
ReplyDeleteIt's very CuTe I must say... & very useful too. Well done on completing your WOOFA challenge this month... xox
ReplyDeleteThe biggest problem I have is not reading directions because "I know what I'm doing"......that's usually a sign of something bad about to happen. The good news is that you got the fabric bin done and you got a WOOFA finish! Good job!
ReplyDeleteRead the instructions twice, usually goes along with that other saying of "Measure twice, and cut once!"
ReplyDeleteOh wow, a homemade fabric bin! That is a lovely idea! I have not ever thought of making them.
ReplyDeleteCute bin! You can never have too many places to stash stuff!
ReplyDeleteRead directions? What in the world does that mean??? Lol! Your bin turned out beautifully in spite of the blunder. Good job!
