We are having an "open day" here in conjunction with Seniors Week and the Sales Manager asked if I could make some flags to be mounted on dowel sticks which will then be attached to sandwich boards that will placed throughout the complex to guide visitors around to various properties for sale as well as showing the way to the waterfall walk and other lovely garden areas. In the past they have used balloons but they are no longer allowed.</p><p>I was handed the various fabrics to be used (they would definitely have not been my choice as they were 100% polyester with no body and did nothing but slip and slide)</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; These are being donated to the local hospitals not for sale at the auxiliary stalls. A lot of maths needed to be done as the size required is 80 cm x 80 cm and for someone who works in inches for quilting the tape measure needed to be consulted to convert and it was found that 80 cm equals 31 1/2" - not easy to work with. Once lots of multiplying and dividing was done the squares were cut at 6 " with 25 of them are required so that when sewn together it ends up being 28" square and with borders of 2 1/2" it will finish at 32". Close enough to 31 1/2" me thinks. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv0NVqUfxIzjHt4pLrUUdJC0SNAfcZ5rbq4wVDcRqzomh2f3Ia-qzJ4qQDiZb5uhL7WuD7FGep3YCLKUpUxHJejWL_r97jUHlK3MuHaLhabhNxEWRWSpPMKCAVjg-qZO7HU85VlEh7fG0WhalN6bpdcAQIq4MmAm2ykSApYfISXcDSDWmXn3FjSaATBd1E/s3840/IMG_20240216_132729.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2160" data-original-width="3840" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv0NVqUfxIzjHt4pLrUUdJC0SNAfcZ5rbq4wVDcRqzomh2f3Ia-qzJ4qQDiZb5uhL7WuD7FGep3YCLKUpUxHJejWL_r97jUHlK3MuHaLhabhNxEWRWSpPMKCAVjg-qZO7HU85VlEh7fG0WhalN6bpdcAQIq4MmAm2ykSApYfISXcDSDWmXn3FjSaATBd1E/s320/IMG_20240216_132729.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p>After a lot of rummaging through that pile these fabrics were pulled</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9c7yWKzvoT-WXVd3O1t-0CiX5CV8E9M9E-Orn61jVWVGarT1Js65Ob9DxDzW4xda92yjZ78UfxVD-FaXdYrthSn6D0uE3xilqjhGvW-o1tJGCEmTIGPRdGbVEpFaZ2BZZIaW-x6206BpkC5GT8hzX1ss4FWTNtkOJjMIVB4bDPQPs_NwwOLL5Jn3lG6eK/s3840/IMG_20240216_134208%20(1).jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2160" data-original-width="3840" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9c7yWKzvoT-WXVd3O1t-0CiX5CV8E9M9E-Orn61jVWVGarT1Js65Ob9DxDzW4xda92yjZ78UfxVD-FaXdYrthSn6D0uE3xilqjhGvW-o1tJGCEmTIGPRdGbVEpFaZ2BZZIaW-x6206BpkC5GT8hzX1ss4FWTNtkOJjMIVB4bDPQPs_NwwOLL5Jn3lG6eK/s320/IMG_20240216_134208%20(1).jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br /></div>Some cutting happened and a bit of playing around with the squares ended up with this result. Brilliant was my response to myself. With that in mind and seeing that it is an extremely hot day what better way to spend the day than in the cool of the sewing room. Some measuring, cutting and ironing on of interfacing took place</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHV2UHp5CMcszYTtzWbEemYVijDpcoaBKHFZL_Idg1iExCMohWfIrcnhI_Z6ffMw9KsB66KR9fPA6Tlo9RzWe2rM-5F4I-vMAtkWOn7u0eyQfkEO_Hf2HX3neSfhN71ldJPti7zF8E5clcqs1CVYKdSLIhUJCZch8_6xzg2EejbPAkLLwEs_DSysecStJV/s3840/interfacing%20on%20reading%20cushion.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2160" data-original-width="3840" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHV2UHp5CMcszYTtzWbEemYVijDpcoaBKHFZL_Idg1iExCMohWfIrcnhI_Z6ffMw9KsB66KR9fPA6Tlo9RzWe2rM-5F4I-vMAtkWOn7u0eyQfkEO_Hf2HX3neSfhN71ldJPti7zF8E5clcqs1CVYKdSLIhUJCZch8_6xzg2EejbPAkLLwEs_DSysecStJV/s320/interfacing%20on%20reading%20cushion.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br /></div>Then the sewing where it ended up outside in<div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUIwkoqwH5Lfz4_Af05y1cgAwjOcXlcI3xv0vhfIVNHUkRBg2jp0HS6JlY1t6ieOptQgCC7sQ6jZQwpS29cBctCurVGWvUCWaweBHQAEtBuqVaHDhPiwu75-HKwn0u-WSMsxpF-YADnyk_0WckRBxemKt9-75M08SA_8x-L5m6l_ZI4W5aLGfnJUpZgdGF/s3840/inside%20out%20challenge%20Feb%202024.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2160" data-original-width="3840" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUIwkoqwH5Lfz4_Af05y1cgAwjOcXlcI3xv0vhfIVNHUkRBg2jp0HS6JlY1t6ieOptQgCC7sQ6jZQwpS29cBctCurVGWvUCWaweBHQAEtBuqVaHDhPiwu75-HKwn0u-WSMsxpF-YADnyk_0WckRBxemKt9-75M08SA_8x-L5m6l_ZI4W5aLGfnJUpZgdGF/s320/inside%20out%20challenge%20Feb%202024.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div>And then once completed turned inside out to end up like this</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdIR6n7ZquFZcBEO1h-0sfdAId0OkmAwKcKOMOVwdD8yIWiUW8Q1i5iDkd6CEkue3kmuD5saKrw_vVwosOiYcuF7fsTCzGo_zaggWDEAJGMuoO8ouZaUUqmN6wgsxRwaOS3pNvWto2abc71AZPvtBEv2IKp8TWfX0S4Ly8EMFTASPzIMZjVyT_DCj45XUO/s3840/first%20reading%20cushion%20finished%20Feb%202024.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2160" data-original-width="3840" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdIR6n7ZquFZcBEO1h-0sfdAId0OkmAwKcKOMOVwdD8yIWiUW8Q1i5iDkd6CEkue3kmuD5saKrw_vVwosOiYcuF7fsTCzGo_zaggWDEAJGMuoO8ouZaUUqmN6wgsxRwaOS3pNvWto2abc71AZPvtBEv2IKp8TWfX0S4Ly8EMFTASPzIMZjVyT_DCj45XUO/s320/first%20reading%20cushion%20finished%20Feb%202024.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>Thanks again Trish (taking over Kim's blog) for another fun challenge. I had put the book aside for several weeks as we had 2 months to read it due to the Christmas/New Year period. When making a start I was repulsed at an early stage in the first chapter when the octopus grabbed the cleaner by the arm - my horror that some creepy crawly will get on me - and left what looked it suction cap marks all up her arm which she tried to hide for several days until they faded. At that point I said to myself give it until the end of Chapter 2 and then decide if to continue reading or just skim enough to discuss with the group.</p><p>By the end of Chapter 2 I was hooked and found that I was picking up the book at every available moment and could not wait to see how it finished. While the octopus was the main theme of the book there were several other characters who were vital to the story line each with their own story to tell.</p><p>It was interesting to hear that the other members of the group also had my initial thoughts about the book and we all ended up being pleasantly surprised and would highly recommend it to anyone. This book was a "wild card" pick by the library for us. It was noted that this was the first book written by the author and we hope that she has further books ahead of her which we look forward to reading when available. </p><p>Our next book is one that I listened to as an audiobook last year so it will be a skim read just to refresh myself as to the storyline and characters. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxSNqNtpKFcYzc8DEp9rL_k-rjsCY5P2jwfPvkKOJGyAaOFuvjxgd7TfsukXyqDdm85tgyrWMLER8yV_aZ9-yndcgAyr6wmtfORQfTHRnsTdyYulU9afZG0Cv1hKLR4fyHnDXuW7AwjN3Z1UtXWjtsg411pNjBOV_wGxJvy6tQ-ySPrSj3iXGdSc3qYx7w/s3840/The%20four%20winds%20Jan%202024.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3840" data-original-width="2160" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxSNqNtpKFcYzc8DEp9rL_k-rjsCY5P2jwfPvkKOJGyAaOFuvjxgd7TfsukXyqDdm85tgyrWMLER8yV_aZ9-yndcgAyr6wmtfORQfTHRnsTdyYulU9afZG0Cv1hKLR4fyHnDXuW7AwjN3Z1UtXWjtsg411pNjBOV_wGxJvy6tQ-ySPrSj3iXGdSc3qYx7w/s320/The%20four%20winds%20Jan%202024.jpg" width="180" /></a></div><div><br /></div>In the meantime my reading pile includes these four books<div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQJbw8F-Uv72eyFPUOhYIF3pwlxVxpGv-FHRqynL0ZQLkT7VZ1itN_Y_RidIoP1BTUWfpWjy6emq4RjH_jDxZS4_DVWQC86a-Yy-2zHhTcI5wTi-GVFcW6453DId3QBsplyNP8TU0MAyM3PFkt9nz08jXMRyYjDBp-yBJGuD43WMxrMOb22hHpt91JYfd0/s3840/4%20books%20Jan%202024.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2160" data-original-width="3840" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQJbw8F-Uv72eyFPUOhYIF3pwlxVxpGv-FHRqynL0ZQLkT7VZ1itN_Y_RidIoP1BTUWfpWjy6emq4RjH_jDxZS4_DVWQC86a-Yy-2zHhTcI5wTi-GVFcW6453DId3QBsplyNP8TU0MAyM3PFkt9nz08jXMRyYjDBp-yBJGuD43WMxrMOb22hHpt91JYfd0/s320/4%20books%20Jan%202024.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div>And this audio book is keeping me company in the sewing room.<br /><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkFhuNzFXUMYgUQjfQBYSvgk_dQRwNTR2Szqs5Z3BmE7dlCa4u52UKc8NdzAcLet-oOwpY95W1JNaBeSa-GYdSbyNUgyZxT2k6gbeB9gJ1oLG4MaYRRtnMT0_KUmeJ9zxK8YTRWMqnLsPiXufqrhP-aeY7Paw_lJBXzS6BUtC0qRoXnjtNtGkZ9jiZHpPl/s3840/audio%20book%20-%20the%20money%20club%20Jan%202024.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2160" data-original-width="3840" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkFhuNzFXUMYgUQjfQBYSvgk_dQRwNTR2Szqs5Z3BmE7dlCa4u52UKc8NdzAcLet-oOwpY95W1JNaBeSa-GYdSbyNUgyZxT2k6gbeB9gJ1oLG4MaYRRtnMT0_KUmeJ9zxK8YTRWMqnLsPiXufqrhP-aeY7Paw_lJBXzS6BUtC0qRoXnjtNtGkZ9jiZHpPl/s320/audio%20book%20-%20the%20money%20club%20Jan%202024.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div><p>Don't forget to go over <a href="https://www.sugarlane-designs.com/2024/01/our-january-fnsi-get-together.html">here</a> to see what other crafters did last night during FNSI.</p><p>Linking with January <a href="https://dreamworthyquilts.blogspot.com/2024/01/january-chookshed-challenge-6-is.html">chookshed challenge</a></p><p>Back soon and in the meantime</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><b><span lang="EN-AU" style="font-family: "Freestyle Script"; font-size: 36pt; letter-spacing: 3pt; line-height: 115%; mso-effects-glow-alpha: 35.0%; mso-effects-glow-color: #0D7BFF; mso-effects-glow-colortransforms: satm=220000; mso-effects-glow-rad: 3.583pt; mso-effects-glow-themecolor: accent1; mso-style-textfill-fill-gradientfill-shade-linearshade-angle: 5400000; mso-style-textfill-fill-gradientfill-shade-linearshade-fscaled: no; mso-style-textfill-fill-gradientfill-shadetype: linear; mso-style-textfill-fill-gradientfill-stoplist: "10000 \#6399ED 4 100000 tint=83000 shade=100000 satm=200000\,75000 \#235B9F 4 100000 tint=100000 shade=50000 satm=150000"; mso-style-textfill-type: gradient; mso-style-textoutline-fill-alpha: 100.0%; mso-style-textoutline-fill-color: #F4F6F9; mso-style-textoutline-fill-colortransforms: tint=10000; mso-style-textoutline-fill-themecolor: accent1; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-align: center; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-compound: simple; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-dash: solid; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-dpiwidth: .45pt; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-join: miter; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-linecap: flat; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-pctmiterlimit: 0%; mso-style-textoutline-type: solid;"><span style="color: #3d85c6;">Happy

Looking back on my post at the same time last year not much has changed in the way of many things.</p><p>COVID is still circulating in the community and keeps breaking out worldwide with a new mutation from time to time. Life has had to go on regardless and we have had to learn to live with it. Fortunately hubs and I have managed to escape it so far ( I hope this will not jinx us) but we are lucky enough to be in a position where we are not travelling on public transport in crowded peak hours or attend large and crowded events. </p><p>The war involving Russia and Ukraine still rages on with no end in sight and during the latter part of the year there was conflict between Israel and Palestine - again with no end in sight. Many innocent civilians have lost their lives on both sides of these conflicts. </p><p>Floods and cyclones again have battered Far North Queensland as well as severe storms causing power outages to many thousands of homes, widespread damage from golf ball size hail stones and strong winds all along the east coast of Australia. Fortunately hubs and I have had no damage to our property.</p><p>I have had a very successful year in respect to having an outlet for my sewing with the opportunity to take a stall on 3 occasions during the year with the biggest event being the Spring Fair held in September. It took a lot of work both on the sewing front in order to have a good variety of items to sell and also as a member of the organising committee for all the behind scenes work that needs to happen in order for the day to run smoothly. The recent Christmas market was also very successful for me and there is to be an open day here in March so a list will need to be compiled soon of items to be sewn. </p><p><span>I have joined in a monthly challenge along with many other Chookshed stitchers and look forward to making a start on that. No 6 has just been announced and for me that is making cross body bags. Time will be spent this afternoon pulling fabrics and zips from the stash. I did have a last minute finish for 2023 while "Zooming" along with some of the other challengers on Saturday and that was to sew up three beanies, make 3 pom poms and stitch them on.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTv_JQ-lxA6AilmkpgElK2Trh5YKCTHhz9IVCWxiHerp6C0lCDaDnLwDOg7uFzpBfPR4494cPUB53VU49c3lN-HDlGI_MoI0uRlcuw2HxYQmMfFCUs-h7bzAJQ_NnAeZkxhSZcgCmVxhvHRINaN3pVX1vNCKt1BOlV53aMEN2FlsLXP_87lTkOiEwxOHij/s3840/beanies%20Dec%202023.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2160" data-original-width="3840" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTv_JQ-lxA6AilmkpgElK2Trh5YKCTHhz9IVCWxiHerp6C0lCDaDnLwDOg7uFzpBfPR4494cPUB53VU49c3lN-HDlGI_MoI0uRlcuw2HxYQmMfFCUs-h7bzAJQ_NnAeZkxhSZcgCmVxhvHRINaN3pVX1vNCKt1BOlV53aMEN2FlsLXP_87lTkOiEwxOHij/s320/beanies%20Dec%202023.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><span>And my first make for 2024 was an order that I had for a snap top bag but it had to be a certain size to fit a mini Ipad and a charger. It was finished off this morning and will be delivered this afternoon. This was left over fabric from a nightie that was cut out during the week. It is such a lovely piece of cotton fabric and pretty design I thought that I could get away with using it for the bag as the person who ordered the bag will never see my nightie. </span><p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim1QMmVGXVFEpcwsmoS0T_rkEGt30g7L3f7Sz8L8aBi0S13n5xDwejX0TMs8WyEoSbsjijSqSDzdql5X5PP4Ct6ckIeZDcoZ5OlpdjF-FFIlRdW7jDfeZVWIrM-N13bzuTUHnA4Wyo0Mz_-NMhyphenhyphenmMJS1Ew-OF4jlw3nQOH7q2_JRh1c33SYzcXTfaIodMq/s3840/snap%20top%20bag%20for%20jeanette%202.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2160" data-original-width="3840" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim1QMmVGXVFEpcwsmoS0T_rkEGt30g7L3f7Sz8L8aBi0S13n5xDwejX0TMs8WyEoSbsjijSqSDzdql5X5PP4Ct6ckIeZDcoZ5OlpdjF-FFIlRdW7jDfeZVWIrM-N13bzuTUHnA4Wyo0Mz_-NMhyphenhyphenmMJS1Ew-OF4jlw3nQOH7q2_JRh1c33SYzcXTfaIodMq/s320/snap%20top%20bag%20for%20jeanette%202.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><span>My wish for all is a happy and healthy 2024 with lots and lots of </span><div><p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><b><span lang="EN-AU" style="font-family: "Freestyle Script"; font-size: 36pt; letter-spacing: 3pt; line-height: 115%; mso-effects-glow-alpha: 35.0%; mso-effects-glow-color: #0D7BFF; mso-effects-glow-colortransforms: satm=220000; mso-effects-glow-rad: 3.583pt; mso-effects-glow-themecolor: accent1; mso-style-textfill-fill-gradientfill-shade-linearshade-angle: 5400000; mso-style-textfill-fill-gradientfill-shade-linearshade-fscaled: no; mso-style-textfill-fill-gradientfill-shadetype: linear; mso-style-textfill-fill-gradientfill-stoplist: "10000 \#6399ED 4 100000 tint=83000 shade=100000 satm=200000\,75000 \#235B9F 4 100000 tint=100000 shade=50000 satm=150000"; mso-style-textfill-type: gradient; mso-style-textoutline-fill-alpha: 100.0%; mso-style-textoutline-fill-color: #F4F6F9; mso-style-textoutline-fill-colortransforms: tint=10000; mso-style-textoutline-fill-themecolor: accent1; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-align: center; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-compound: simple; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-dash: solid; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-dpiwidth: .45pt; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-join: miter; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-linecap: flat; mso-style-textoutline-outlinestyle-pctmiterlimit: 0%; mso-style-textoutline-type: solid;"><span style="color: #3d85c6;">Happy

Going back over my blog posts for the last year was fun and brought back memories that I had forgotten about. </p><p>The project that dominated the first half of the year was the quilt for Miss M made from fabric that I was gifted last Christmas. After much research on the net and other sources I came up with a pattern that I thought would work for these fabrics. Some of the fabrics needed to be fussy cut in order for the design on the fabric to be showcased. <a href="https://pksmokey11.blogspot.com/2023/06/done-and-dusted-omg.html">Done and dusted</a> was how I felt about this project after working on it for quite sometime.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; This challenge is as follows</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-size: large;">If you would like to join, make a list of ten sewing related items or goals you want to work on in 2024, and post it to your blog on or before January 1st. You can join late, but the first number will be posted January 1st. Each month, January through October, I will draw a number. That will be the number from our list we all work on together in blogland. Blog your progress through the month to keep us all motivated.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-size: large;">Your list can include any sewing goal you set for yourself.
