FNwF

Started early this morning for me as two tablerunners needed to be finished off for the hospital auxiliary stall tomorrow and seeing that I am on the set up and first shift things needed to be moved along quickly.    Even though these are called 10 minute tablerunners there is nothing ten minutes about them or I am a very slow worker.

Before heading into the sewing room an impossible pasta and vegetable pie was made for a quick lunch for hubs and myself for the next couple of days.

I cannot take any credit for the gorgeous handknits below but I wanted to share them with you.   One of the ladies in my knitting group donates these to the hospital stall each month.    I call her a "machine" as she usually donates between 4 to 6 of these each month and they sell like hot cakes.   As you can image there is never a pair of knitting needles out of her hands.

This brings me to the big red ball of wool.    These three beanies have been worked on over the last couple of weeks and still does not appear to be any shrinkage in the size of the ball.

A new book was started.

I have received a few orders over the last couple of days.    One lady wants 2 girl bibs, 2 boy bibs and an apron for a 3 year old girl.    Plenty of fabric in the stash to cover those.     Another order has come for a set of 4 placemats but they needed to be personalised for each member of the family.    Floral for the lady of the house, racing cars for the man of the house, basketball fabric for No 1 son and computer fabric for No 2 son.    Plenty of floral fabric in the stash but the other three were very specific so on-line shopping was resorted to to obtain them.

The fabrics arrived in the mail this morning.

Another order has come in for two hanging kitchen handtowels.    And Miss M has requested a couple of pairs of shorts for summer.

All of the above will be my OMG for November and don't forget to go over here to see what else was happening for FNwF in other craft rooms.

Apple shaped pot holders

Were nominated to be my October OMG and they were completed today.

They are now waiting patiently in my giftie box.

I also finished off sewing together the green scraps that were being worked on while in the Zoom Room on Saturday.

Next step is to convert them into bibs.

A little bit of this and a little bit of that

Caught up with the blue scraps - last month's  RSC colour - during the week and they now look like this.

Once they were put aside it was onto to making some pot holders for the Hospital Auxiliary Stall.  The last one was sold  a couple of weeks ago and stock needed to be replenished.  These had been "production lined" during the week and only needed to be top stitched last night when joining in with  FNSI.

The Auxiliary has a couple of Christmas stalls coming up during November/December so with that in mind some Christmas fabrics were pulled to make tablerunners.

I  finished reading this book and even though I did guess the storyline at the beginning it did not stop me from enjoying the book and would certainly recommend it.   Set in the 1950's in a small town on the NSW coast the mystery woman tries to start a new life away from the glitz and glamour of Sydney and an affair that she had with a politician.

A batch of apple, coconut and cinnamon muffins were made and enjoyed with a cup of coffee.

Chooky put up a post during the week letting the Chookshed Stitchers know that there was a need for "a sewing fix" to be had via Zoom on Saturday.   I had been debating whether to shop on Friday or Saturday so the decision was made for me.....shop yesterday, stitch and Zoom today.  No better way to spend a gloomy day than in the sewing room with chatter and laughter.

I used the time while chatting to sew green scraps - this months RSC colour - together for the next batch bibs.

Playing Catch up

Last month the RSC colour was light blue and unfortunately nothing was done towards trying to empty the blue scrap bin but that was overcome this week when a start was made sewing blue slabs of fabric together to end up as bibs.

While these were being sewn up this e-book was keeping me company.  I have read many books by Alexander McCall Smith with The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series being my favourite however this is the first e-book of his that I have listened to.

In between heavy showers this week I managed to squeeze in a quick walk around the area and found this display of  gorgeous orchids.

Two more red beanies finished off

The photo below shows the tally of red beanies made so far and you will see that the ball of red wool does not appear to be shrinking.     It will be interesting to see just how many beanies end up being made from it.   Quite a bit more click and clack up and back from the knitting needles to come for a while.

Time to head off and make a start on the day.

FNwF

Being the first Friday night of the month means FNwF and having not been back in the sewing room much since my stall this was the perfect opportunity to get back into it.    A good start was made on the red and green apple shaped pot holders that are destined for my giftie box.

The leaves were appliqued onto all six potholders and the stalks - the hanging loops - were cut, sewn and stitched in place as well.

Hop on over to Cheryll's blog and see what others achieved last night.

We do not get to see the sun very often these days in fact this year so far has been declared our wettest year on record and extreme weather with widespread flooding has been forecast for today so when we woke to a lovely sunny morning on Monday hubs and I went on a drive to North Head.   Judging by the traffic that we drove through in and around Manly everyone else was out and about taking advantage of the sunny day and public holiday.     It was interesting watching the pilot boats leading the cargo ship out through the heads.

The book that I am currently reading is certainly proving to be a "page turner".

Is anyone else having problems uploading photos via the insert image icon on blogger?     I have had to go to my photo files and do the cut and paste trick followed by a few clicks of the mouse to get the photos to appear!!!!!!   Very frustrating, time consuming and annoying.

September OPAM & October OMG

Activity in the sewing room has been minimal this month with just 1 blog hop tabletopper, finishing off the churn dash SAL items  - 2 placemats and matching tabletopper - as well as 4 beanies completed.

That big ball of red wool that was started back  at the beginning of last month does not appear to be shrinking.   It has become quite the joke in my knitting group so the challenge is to see how many beanies with red pom poms will eventually end up being made out of it.   The only other colours  used will navy, grey, beige and black.    I will certainly be sick of those colours by the end of the challenge and definitely be ready for a change of colours.

Thanks Kris for keeping tally of everyone's progress.

I heard yesterday that it is only 87 days to Christmas 😨so with a very depleted giftie box time to get the thinking cap on for ideas and to finish off my green and red apple pot holders. They will be my OMG for October.    This is my progress so far.

A bit late....computer problems

My computer decided that it was not going to play nicely last Thursday so off to the computer doctor on Friday for a 4 night stay in the repair shop.  For some reason I am unable to post on my blog with the Ipad so as a consequence I am running behind with the my FNSI  and end of month  churn dash report.

After not being at the machine for just on 3 weeks FNSI was a good motivator to get me back there and finish off the bindings on the churn dash placemats and tabletopper that have been sitting around looking at me everytime I passed the room.

An early start was made on Friday morning so that there was nothing to distract or sidetrack me from my mission.   All done and ready to use.  Don't forget to go here to check out the progress of the others taking part in the  SAL.

Time even allowed for a batch of scones to be made and enjoyed with a cup of coffee.

Feeling recharged after a break I headed back into the sewing room to cut some 2" strips of red and green fabrics to make some apple pot holders for my depleted giftie box.   This time there will be Granny Smiths - green - and Johnathons - red.

Thanks Wendy for having us "all around" again.

Miss M has been staying with us for the last few days.    Yesterday we took a ferry ride into the City and visited the Aquarium.

We both agreed that the highlight of the day was the emporer penguin exhibit.

After a shopping expedition this morning to spend some pocket money from grandpa we headed to the beach.   I was very happy to stand on the water's  edge and hold the towel while she did some wave jumping.    It was home to have a hot shower and some lunch before heading off to collect the computer.

I am off to do some all important blog hopping to see what has been happening in my "absence".
