September OMG

Was to get 3 more items ticked off the "to do list" and I am pleased to report that with the completion of these cross body bags during the past week

And with  previous completions of mini Christmas stockings and purse sized tissues  that was my September goal reached.

Thanks Patty for organising us again.

Not much will be happening in the sewing room this week as Miss M is staying with us for the first few days of the school holidays.

Request finished

At the hospital auxiliary stall we sell a surprising amount of tea cosies - not being a tea drinker myself I find this quite amazing.   These tea cosies are  knitted with some crocheted but I have not seen a padded one.    The "stock control" person for the auxiliary also attended the CWA 100 party last month and saw the padded one that I made and asked me if I could make one for the next hospital auxiliary stall to see how it would sell.  Here is the result of that request

I will let you know after the October stall if it sold or not.

During the week I was able to tick another item off the "to do list" for the Christmas market.    Time even allowed me to gift wrap and price them.  They now reside in the stall/giftie box.

Christmas tablerunners are also on the "to do list"  and seeing that not everyone has a long table some tabletoppers will also be added.    I wanted to keep the design simple yet effective using only 2/3 fabrics and this design popped into my head the other day.  I am sure that it is not original and someone else would have come up with the idea but I drew it out and will work on it.  I want something around 16" x 16" when finished.

It has been good weather to stay indoors and work in the sewing room as Sydney is in the middle of an extreme heatwave with some of the days this past week having the hottest September temperatures on record.

Smoke gets in your eyes & FNSI

In order to try and minimize the impact of bushfires this summer back burning has been taking place surrounding Sydney for the past week and the air quality has been severely affected as can be seen in the photo below from the ferry when travelling into the City this morning.

The purpose of my visit was to visit the Sydney Museum to see the exhibition called

It was interesting looking back over the history of the "House" as I have vivid memories of it being built, the opening ceremony by Queen Elizabeth 11 and have attended concerts there quite a few times over the years.  The photos below show some of the the posters from performances over the years  and other aspects.

I am currently reading Elizabeth and Elizabeth - a novel based on Elizabeth Macquarie and Elizabeth Macarthur - and discovered something that I never knew was in Sydney in all the years that I have lived here and been in the City.    There is an obelisk in Macquarie Place giving distances of principal roads from Sydney

I made a point of walking past Macquarie Place on my way to the Museum to find it.

After my day out it was lovely to be able to sit down  and finish off the drawstring knitting bag that I will be gifting this week when I meet up with my friend who leaves on her trip in two weeks time.

My latest audio book while sewing is

I somehow imagined that her life growing up would have been quite different to how it actually was.

Thanks Wendy for organising us again for FNSI.

Look to the right.......

And then to the left

Would you believe that I was standing in the middle of the same road in the botanical gardens of Sydney.   Spring is such a lovely time of year in Sydney.....everything is coming out in flower with warmer weather, brighter mornings and nights.   A walk through the gardens is always a pleasant experience.

After all that  walking it is nice to be able to sit down and enjoy a coffee and cake before setting off on the rest of the journey.

Which was to climb these stairs back up to street level

And then make my way  up to see the annual flower display at David Jones.

My latest read is.

However I am finding this book a bit confusing as there are quite a lot of characters with multiple relationships.

I did manage to tick another item off the to do list during the week.

I have a knitting friend who needs a gift so with that in mind a rummage through my stash revealed these fabrics that I will turn into a lined drawstring bag with a boxed bottom which can be used to put her knitting in when going on a cruise at the end of the month.

I could say that I am very clever and knitted this beanie using fair isle stitch

But the truth is that the ball of yarn next to it is called "magic stripes" and it is certainly is magic.    It does not matter what pattern you knit it always comes out with the stripes in place.   Very clever.

September OMG and FNwF

First up I did achieve my August OMG which was to finish off the second batch of 50 library bags and compile my "to do list" for the Christmas market.

My OMG for September is to get at least 3 more items on the list ticked off.

So with that in mind during the week interfacing, metal tape and fabrics were gathered together to make a start on the next item on my to do list.    Over the course of a few days and with the opportunity to make an early start today for FNwF  all 6 of them are now finished off and ready to go into my Christmas market stall box.

While hubs and I were sitting outside enjoying the sunshine and having our lunch we had a visitor.

By this time it was getting a bit too close and up personal for my liking so I grabbed the phone and started to head inside but fortunately it kept going in the opposite direction and ended up dropping over the edge of the balcony and into the garden below.

This month's book club book is

Some of the members of the club have already read the book but look forward to re-reading it again.  I am not really an historial book fan so it maybe a bit of a struggle for me....time will tell.

Time to change my mini quilts that sit on my sewing table from birthday celebrations

To Spring now that it is the 1st of September.
