Here we go again

Sydney has been placed back into a 14 day lockdown with residents only being able to leave their home for essential shopping,  medical services, exercising or those who need to go to work if they are unable to do so from home.   Unfortunately this lockdown has co-incided with the start of the school holidays yet again.  Hubs and I were going to have Miss M come and stay with us for the first part of the holidays but that will not be happening.

No excuse not to finish off my scrap bag challenge tablerunner - my nominated OMG for June - which I did this morning.    This is the scraps  that I drew

And this is how they ended up

Some of the smaller pieces of fabric were used to make up a scrap binding.   I did raid my stash for the border fabric as there was nothing in the scrap bag fabrics that was big enough to use for it.

You can pop on over here to see some more finishes for this month.

Day one of lockdown over - only 13 more to go.   Me thinks lots more sewing, reading, cooking and knitting will be done during that time.

Take the leftovers

Cut them into 2 1/2" strips, sew them together,  grab a 60 degree ruler and start cutting like so

Turn the ruler upside down and start cutting again

And you will end up with

Keep cutting as above until you have 6 triangles.     Then arrange the pieces alternatively, sew together,  sandwich and pin ready for quilting.  (I kept cutting until I had 12 pieces)

Bind them - which is what I did last night during FNSI - and you will end up with two of these hot mats.  They are being donated to the local hospital auxilary for their fund raising stall next month.     If they sell more will be made in the future.

Don't forget to hop on over to Wendy's blog to see what the others achieved during FNSI.

I need to get back to my scrap bag challenge tablerunner and finish it off - it is my nominated OMG for June and also due for "show and tell" in 3 weeks time.

Moving right along

During the week I was working on and off cutting the sashings and borders of the HST challenge quilt.  All 12 blocks were sewn together, the red border is on and this is how it looks now.

Next week it is being sent off for quilting and on its return I will  put on the binding.   In the past I have always done my own quilting but this one along with the other two quilts which are being made by the other two members of the group are being donated to charity and the member who set the challenge has offered to have them quilted professionally....who am I to argue.    I see many hours being saved on my part.

FNwF

Last night was the first Friday night of the month which means getting to sew along with those who signed up over here.    I spent the evening sewing blue strips together for my new table runner  and then trimming them up.  Progress so far.

Next step is to add the borders.

Thanks Cheryll for organising us each month.

OMG

I have let all my commitments to deadlines go over the last few months but now it is time to start setting goals again in the sewing department.

After measuring and re-measuring the fabrics in the scrap bag it was decided to go with a table runner.  So far the strips are cut and some are arranged in what I think will be their order.  I did add in a couple of extra pieces of fabric so that I could have a reasonably long runner on completion.

My OMG for June will be to get all the strips sewn together, trimmed and sandwiched ready for quilting.
