FNSI

Was on again last night and following what I have been working on over the last year I finished off the 12th and last  in the series of Sunbonnet Sue door hangers.   Seeing that St Patrick's Day is celebrated in March I decided to call this months Sue "Shamrock Sue".

I have really enjoyed my year long project of creating a different Sue to represent each month of the year.    Miss M loves getting a new "Sue" each month.   It is a ritual that we talk about what "Sue" represents and then we hang it on the door of her room together.    I have put  some photos of previous "Sues" below.  I started in April last year so the first one represents April and the last one is for July.

In the photo below it starts from August and goes to November

And in the final photo it starts at December and ends with March

I now have to find another project which I can work on to fill the gap that "Sue" will leave.   But firstly I am going to see what all the other clever crafters and sewists got up to last night over at
Sugarlane Designs.

Back soon and in the meantime

Owl be watching you

Is what I have named the placemat that I have made for Miss M for when she comes to stay at grandma and grandpa's house.    Miss M loves owls so it was decided to go with an owl theme for her special mat.     I was thinking of just making a placemat in the shape of an owl but on further consideration I decided to applique an owl onto a rectangle so she can see the owl when the plate and cup are set on it.     Instead of appliquing the wings I decided to sew them on with a gap so that the cutlery will sit inside them.     The first photo shows the placemat in full

And the photo below shows it set for a meal

In keeping with the owl theme one of the pairs of in-between season pants that I finished off during the week  also has owls on them.

Heading back to the sewing room this week in order to make some progress with a couple of items that have become UFO's.    Back soon and in the meantime

Salad days

For those hot summer nights I always like to have a couple of salads ready to go in the fridge each day to serve with some cold meat, chicken or salmon for dinner.    Two of my favourites are a Greek salad and a Waldorf Salad.      If anyone is a fan of "Faulty Towers"  they will remember the episode of the American tourist telling Basil Faulty how to make a Waldorf salad and this is how I got the recipe.     Very quick and  easy to make - my favourite type of recipe.   And of course a bowl of my home grown tomatoes.    I am "harvesting" a bowl like the one in the photo every second day.

I can finally show the Star War shorts that  my daughter in law requested.   I gave them to her as part of her birthday present today.

I am making good progress with the in-between season pants for Miss M.    She was my model today as I needed to try them on her for the length.     That will be tomorrow's job to finish them off.    Back soon with some photos of the finished item and in the meantime

FNwF finishes

Not a great start to the day.    I had planned on doing some gardening first up and then updating my blog followed by sewing.    I woke this morning around 6 am to  the sound of wind and rain.   Not ideal to get out in the garden so onto Plan B which involved a bit of a lie in, breakfast, doing some housework and then updating my blog.     Up and out of bed to find that there was no power - no power means only cereal for breakfast.    Downed the cereal and was feeling slightly hungry and definitely in need of coffee  but what can you do with an all electric house.     By this time the rain had cleared so out into the garden for some weed pulling - they did pull out very easily after the rain. After an hour of general tidying up in the garden the power was back on.   YEAH - inside for the remainder of breakfast -  coffee and toast - followed by a hot shower.     Bliss.

Back on track now and able to update my blog and show you some photos of my sewing from last night.    Firstly my brown/pinkish 9 patch  blocks all sewn up but in need of a good pressing and trimming up.  That will be my first job after lunch

And the bucket hat for Miss M.   I decided to go with the pink as the main fabric and the owls for the lining.

If you would like to see what the other FNwF got up to follow me over here and we can see together.

Heading back to my sewing room to make a start on the pants that I cut out yesterday and in the meantime

FNwF.....

I have been meaning to sign up with FNwF for sometime and somehow keep forgetting about the first Friday night of the month but not this time.   I am on a roll today and having a dinner break before heading back to some sewing.     I have my brown squares to sew up into 9 patch blocks for February's Rainbow Scrap Challenge and I am well on the way to finishing off the bucket hat for Miss M that I started earlier today.

I plan on being back here tomorrow morning with some photos of what I plan on achieving tonight and in the meantime

One Monthly Goal

It is time to sign up for February's OMG and I have decided that while I have a few things that I would like to work on the priority is to finish off the last in the series of 12 Sunbonnet Sue wall/door hangers that I have been making over the last year.

So out with the ice cream containers that hold my smallish scrap fabrics and have a play to see what goes with what and decide on the theme for March.

Packing that away it was time to find some fabric to make those in-between season pants for Miss M. She is now a big "day care" girl two days a week so extra clothing is required to cope with those accidents and other mishaps that happen on a daily basis with  toddler's clothes.

Another sun hat is also required.     Making a start on the cutting out process.

I am undecided as to whether I will make the owls the main fabric or use a pink fabric - Miss M's favourite colour.   Once I have made it up I can  decided which is going to be the lining fabric then iron a name tag on it.

Time to head off to the sew room and make a start on some of the above.   Back soon with photos of some finishes and in the meantime
