My New Toy

I have been thinking for sometime that it would be an advantage to have an overlocker.   A few weeks ago one of the members of my quilting group was showing us all the benefits of an overlocker which confirmed my thinking that "this is a must".    Off to the sewing machine shop last week for a chat and a demonstration saw me walk out with my new toy.

Home to set it up on my dining room table while I learnt all the "ins and outs"  before moving it to my sewing room and I manged to get all those clothes that I cut out last week sewn up.

How quick it is to sew up a pair of pants for Miss M and  myself.    Why did I not have an overlocker years ago????   Now I can make double the clothes in half the time.      And just to prove it was not beginners luck I made another couple of pairs of winter pants for Miss M in well under half an hour from start to finish today.

Tomorrow sees me sewing up some fleecy tops and matching hats for Miss M.

I am whizzing through my winter fabric stash and will need to replenish my stock.

Today we are celebrating Anzac Day - Lest We Forget.

Back soon with my efforts tomorrow and in the meantime

Done and dusted

I have been quite remiss in finishing off my mystery runner even though I have had the final clue for a couple of weeks.   This is the second mystery runner that I have taken part in and enjoyed doing this one as much as the first but I have to say that I have always thought that a log cabin quilt should be on my "one day to do list" but after completing the latest runner I am beginning to re-think this plan as I found the block to be very "labour intensive" with lots of pressing and  trimming as each round was added.

Another mystery ride is about the take place at the beginning of May and now that I have completed this one I feel that I can "purchase" my ticket to board the train  and enjoy the journey ahead.

Back soon and in the meantime.

FNSI

This week has been out of routine for me so I have made the most of the extra time and spent quite a bit of it in my sewing room.    Today was such a lovely sunny warm day that I decided to take advantage of it and move my sewing room outside and do some cutting out.    It was a bit like a cut-a-thon as I managed to cut out a pair of pj pants, two pj tops and a pair of mid weight pants for Miss M and 2 pairs of pants for myself as can be seen below.

It was then onto the Rainbow Scrap challenge to cut out  fabrics and sew my blocks for this months colour of orange with a touch of either black or brown which posed quite a challenge as I do not have many fabrics with orange in them.    As can be seen  some of the squares are more  brown or gold rather than orange but when put together they seem to all blend in.

A few more Circles added to my pile

So tonight I will be doing the mundane task of pulling the threads through and tying them off.

Thanks again Wendy for hosting another fun day and night of sewing.  I am looking forward to doing some blog hopping over the weekend to have a "look see" at what everyone else got up to tonight.

Back soon and in the meantime

OMG for April

I have completed quite a few goals that I had originally listed on my "wish list" to finish off but somehow I keep ignoring a couple of them and my One Monthly  Goal for April does not include them either.     Shame on me.   Instead I have elected to finish off a mystery runner that I started a couple of weeks ago and have had the final clues for a while but somehow things just keeping cropping up which have kept me away from my sewing room a little more than I would have liked.

This is what I have  achieved so far

I have three more blocks left to construct before I can begin to complete the runner so no more delaying.

I hope to be back at the end of the month with my completed runner to show you and in the meantime

FNwF

I had a few free hours this afternoon after doing the domestics this morning and decided to make an early start on my FNwF sewing.    I am in the process of sewing up a few of those garments that I cut out over the Easter break  but  can only go so far.    I will see Miss M during the week and  need to do a fitting for the length of the pants.

Next was making a start on a warm top.   So far I have only sewn the shoulder seams and put in the neck ribbing.    I want to fit it over her head to make sure it is not too tight and measure the side seams before inserting the sleeves.

I hope my model is in a co-operative mood when I see her.

Time for a coffee break and a pikelet or two before making a start on my next project.

I am looking forward to getting my blue and white half squares triangle blocks next week but in the meantime another  member of my quilt group  is making a Christmas tree skirt and has requested hexagons with whatever on them.    She provided the template size for the hexagon and I chose to applique a Christmas tree on it.

Hubs has requested a new man bag with a few different requirements which I measured it out this afternoon and plan to get it cut out tomorrow.

I am pleased with my early start and what I got through this afternoon.     To see what others got up to head on over to Gone Stitching to see a feast of lovelies.

Back soon and in the meantime
