"When I am 64"

Was the title of my school reunion that was held over the weekend.     I left school in 1968 and have not seen any of my fellow classmates since so it was a case of down memory lane and reaching into the recess of my mind and those who attended the reunion to remember who we each were way back then.   The organising committee did a fantastic job on tracking us down.   There was 172 students in Form 4 as it was known then and we had just on 50 attend from far and wide.

A cake was made with the school crest and a sadly a candle with the names of those who are no longer with us was also there.     Cupcakes for each of us in the school colours of blue, white and silver sprinkles represented the grey in our uniforms.    Funnily enough none of us could fit into our old uniforms!!!

A group photo was taken of those attending the reunion as can be seen below.   We all look quite a bit different.

It was decided that we should not leave the next reunion another 49 years and hopefully we can all meet up again in 2 years time.

Citrus Slice

Mug Rug or Hotpad which ever one you like to call it I knew that  I had to make one when I saw this link.      Into the box of yellow scraps and this is was produced.

It would just as yummy when done in other colours especially green.   It was a welcome relief to sew something round for a change and a break from making 4 patch squares of which I have just completed the last ones.   As you can see there was a bit of a production line going while making them.

A jigsaw puzzle

Is what putting this quilt together feels like as I move the blocks around to "fit".     I am designing this quilt in panels and so far  the middle section is sewn,  the side sashings have been added in and working on the blocks as I go in order to get a good balance of colour.

There was a hold up getting the wool wadding but that has now been sorted so I spent the afternoon sandwiching and pinning the middle section ready to quilt.

Next it is back to making another 44 blocks for the top and bottom sections of the quilt.     This quilt is for a single bed however I  always like to make my quilts the next size bed up so that there is plenty of overhang especially for a restless sleeper.

Thanks Wendy for organising FNSI.    To see what everyone else was busy doing pop on over to Sugarlane Designs.

Linking with Elm Street Quilts OMG for April as my goal was to make a start on getting part of the fairy quilt top together.

100 Day Finale

Back in January I nominated 3 items to finish for  the 100 day challenge.    First was my 365 daily circle quilt, second the rainbow scrap quilt and third was a new bag.      Now for the report card - at the 30 day check-in in February I reported that some work had been achieved on the 365 daily circle quilt, nothing on the rainbow quilt and the bag had been completed and used a couple of times.

At the 60 day check-in point  during March I was at the point of "just wanting to finish" off the circle quilt and nothing done on the rainbow quilt.

At the 100 day check-in point my 365 daily circle quilt has been finished and now that the weather is turning cooler of a night it is nice to snuggle up underneath it while watching tv and during the add breaks I can reminisce about what happened on a certain day but sadly nothing has happened with the rainbow quilt.

Thanks Jen for organising the challenge and to see if others achieved their goals pop over to Jen's blog at Quilter in the Closet.

Back soon with some progress photos on the fairy quilt for Miss M and in the meantime

Southern Highlands Escape

Hubs and I had a few days away in the southern Highlands of NSW with some members of the "old gang".    We have been friends with them for over 50 years.

This is where we stayed  during our time away

And some of the beautiful lush green countryside and waterfalls

It was a lovely relaxing time away and the hardest decisions were where and what to eat.    That is what I call a holiday - not having to think about what to cook for a meal, preparing and cleaning up afterwards.

I did however suffer "withdrawal symptoms" from my sewing machine and luckily for me it was FNwF last night.   I had time after getting home and sorting out washing etc to make a little Easter bunny treat bag for Miss M which satisfied that need to sew.

I heard that Easter bunny will be filling it with small chocolate eggs and jelly beans.

Thanks Cheryll for organising FNwF again.

4 Patch blocks

I have made a start on sewing up the 4 patch blocks needed to alternate with the focus fabric.    When the fabrics were laid out  I thought that something was missing and after staring at the fabric and walking away it came to me that  yellow was needed in there so back to the stash to find just that right shade of yellow.  Seeing that pink is Miss M's favourite colour each of the blocks will have a shade of  pink  in them.

There is no pattern for this quilt as it is being made up as I go.   Not sure if this is a good idea or not....time will tell.

So my OMG  for April is to finish off the rest of the 4 patch blocks and maybe even try to get part of the quilt top assembled.
