40th "Friendship" Anniversary

In my last post I mentioned some secret sewing that had taken place and I was referring to a cushion cover that was made for a friend on the occasion of our 40th friendship anniversary.   We met on the buses when travelling home from the city each day after work and we became very good friends.   Our children grew up together and even though 28 years ago she and her family moved to another State distance was not a barrier for us.     June spent a week with hubs and I which enabled us to catch up in person - even though we "skype" on a very regular basis it is not the same.  The picture below shows me holding the quilt that was made for me and June holding her cushion.

The two of us "wrapped" in the quilt.

A close up of one of the many sayings on the quilt

A celebration needs  a special lunch which of course had to include a "naughty" dessert.  Not much dinner was eaten that night.

It was lovely being able to catch up and talk over old times as well as encourage each other with our sewing.

Northern lights

This month JoJo has us travellers heading off to see the Northern Lights in Canada.   Many years ago I visited Canada and the scenery is something that will stay with me forever.    I did not however see the Northern lights but with modern technology I can see them from the comfort of my house with the aid of my computer.  Again I went with the mug rug theme and at the end of our travels with JoJo I will have quite a collection of "souvenir mug rugs".     You can see my version of the Northern Lights below and if you go here you can see what JoJo had in mind for us this month.

After completing my northern lights I was able to make  a small tablemat and coasters with the leftover bits and pieces from the border fabrics to match the  tablemats  that I finished last week.

Cheers, Good Health or......

Whatever it is that you say when sharing a glass or two with family and friends I think that my new placemats will fit right in.   Last night was FNSI hosted by Wendy of Sugarlane Designs which was a good opportunity to bind the six placemats that had been sitting around my sewing room for the last week.

I have enough bits and pieces of the different border fabrics left over to make a small mat for the middle of the table as well as 6 drink coasters.   My aim is to get those small items done within the next couple of days as I have a very good friend staying with us for a few days next week and it will be nice to have the "matching set" to use....no pressure here.

Thanks again Wendy for organizing last night and I suggest popping over here to see some lovely work that was achieved by others.

FNwF

I had lots and lots of time today to make an early start on my project as we had some builders in doing some work so while they built I sewed.       When I walked past the builders on a few occasions from my sewing room to the main house I thought that sewing can be likened to building in many ways - measuring, cutting and fitting.

Good progress was made on a new set of 6 placemats.   The panel was cut into pieces to separate the "pictures" , each was bordered, sandwiched and quilted.

Next job is to trim,  cut and stitch  the binding on which may or may not happen tomorrow depending on how quickly I get some of the "domestic duties" done.

I have decided that this will be my OMG for November.

Thanks Cheryll for hosting another fun FNwF.

Getting there

I only have two months left now of making my daily circles.   I cannot believe just how quickly this year is moving along.   During the week I completed October's circles and had a quick look back on the year in "circle form".   At this stage I am thinking of perhaps putting the number of each month - in a circle of course - before the blocks for that month so that in time to come I can relate to what happened during that month.   More thought needs to be given to that idea.  Anyway here are my October circles complete with bats to represent Halloween.

To see some more pretty circles head on over to Quilty Folk.

If you would like to join in tomorrow nights fun at FNwF just pop over here to see what it is all about.

Aloha

Hawaii is the second destination on the World Quilting Travel Adventure.    It was time to unpack from Oregon and pack for the warm climate of  a tropical island.    I think that I have included all that is needed for such a vacation.

Hubs and I have been lucky in the past to be able to travel to Hawaii on a few occasions and can happily say that it is one of our favourite  holiday places.     The lovely beaches with warm water lapping at your toes as you stroll  along the waters edge catching every now and then the sweet smell of  the plumeria flowers make for a very relaxing holiday.   JoJo has also been to Hawaii and has put some interesting facts  here including pictures of  the second challenge item which includes  a plumeria flower.    I was lucky enough to have a piece of fabric with plumeria flowers on it and decided that I enjoyed making the mug rug last month so I would go with that idea again.    So here is my salute to Hawaii

Thanks JoJo for the inspiration and I look forward to our next destination on this adventure.
