A Rare Commodity

Having made 20 masks my supply of hat elastic was depleted and after having tried in several shops around my area to buy more without any success I mentioned my sad plight to June of June's Jottings and she was able to get me some.   Mind you she also had to try 8 shops before hitting the jackpot.  It arrived via the post today.  I will guard it very carefully.

After doing some gardening and other domestic duties this morning I headed to the sewing room after lunch to make an early start on FNSI  in order to make some pencil cases/bags.    The co-ordinator of Network heaven asked if I could help make some smallish drawstring pouches - 10cm x 22cm - to hold  pencils for 4-5 year olds.  She would like 60 done and with two of us making them it means 30 each.   I was given this lot of drill fabric and cord to use.

After an hour in the sewing room they are cut out and some have been through the overlocker.

I did do a pro-type during the week and found while it was very quick to make doing the casing for the drawstring was a bit fiddly as it was too small to fit around free-arm of the machine so I had to be careful when feeding it through to keep the back part away from where I was stitching as it could easily be caught up.

Time to head on over to Wendy's blog to see who else was sewing/crafting last night and what they got up to.

Back soon and in the meantime

Happy sewing all

Look at you go with all those masks! Wish I had a surger. I am not sure what hat elastic is, but someone told me she was cutting strips from little girl's tights. I think that is brilliant too. I am going to try it. Apparently it is very soft on the ears. She said it curls up nicely for you after cutting a strip.

Hi Karen. I’m just getting around to catching up on some blog reading. You’ve got this mask making down pat. I haven’t tried to make one yet, only printed out a pattern. Your coasters turned out well and I’m looking forward to seeing your pretty pink project. It was great to catch up, if ever so briefly, in the Zoom get together. Hopefully there will be another before too long. I wonder what your stitching project will be? Nicole Alexander is doing a Zoom book talk through our local library soon. I haven’t read any of her books, so must try one. Mick loves a good mystery and is always on the lookout for new authors.

Productive day. After similar elastic problems in the UK some mask makers have been using ties made from strips of old t shirts.

Elastic is like gold! One of our Brissy shops had a whole card of it shoplifted 10 minutes after it went on the shelf!! Great work on the pouches x

I'm not sure what mask elastic is, but I've had good luck finding elastic recently. I made about five different mask designs trying to find one we liked.

Great effort on the drawstring bags - sometimes those free arms are just too big!
Elastic seems to be a bit like toilet paper - gran it when you can!! I did see lots in Spotlight today - all sorts of colours! but in QLD maks are not such an issue - maybe that is why there was plenty.
