Berry delicious

My favourite fruits would be strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries so it is no surprise that these items are on my weekly shopping list at the moment and top my cereal each morning along with yogurt and passionfruit.

There has been a run of lovely warm weather this last week which has allowed me to start off each day with a swim.

On my way back from the pool I walked past one of the "locals" lounging around

Some beanies were finished off

As were two more small quilts

And another pile of books to read my way through.

A list of items to sew for the hospital auxiliary stall next week and some Christmas gifts has been compiled and will be worked on during the coming days giving priority to the auxiliary items.

The Caylax

Today was one of those days that you just had to be out and about in the beautiful sunshine.    Waiting for the ferry to leave Manly wharf to head into the city.

I was lucky to get front row seats without anyone in front of me until we neared the City.

The purpose of my trip was to visit the Caylax in the Royal Botanic Gardens.

To see the current exhibition

Inside the Caylax

Time to have some morning tea,  find a seat to sit down and enjoy only to be joined by "a friend" who was eyeing off my piece of cake.  He did keep his distance and behaved himself.

Walking back to the City  via the Rose Garden.

Where some stunning roses could be seen.

No matter which direction you walk within the Gardens glimpses of the City can be seen from most areas.  One of the many statues and fountains that can be found throughout the Gardens.

Some sewing has happened this week.   My mother asked if I could make her some placemats for gifts.  The brief was 5 single placemats, each to be 12" x 18" using only feature fabric without borders.   The requested fabrics were  chocolate,  cheese, cats and two were to be wild birds.   Onto my favourite online fabric store - Find a Fabric - ordered the requested fabrics which arrived quite quickly.    Here is the result

Two small quilts were also finished off.

Now that the weather is warming up me thinks that it is time to try out the pool tomorrow.....maybe.

FNSI

My plans were washed out yesterday due to a wet day which proved to be the perfect day to spend in the sewing room and start FNSI early.   I had been working on and off on some apple shaped pot holders over the past couple of weeks so I took the opportunity to finish them off.

They are now all ready to go to the December hospital auxiliary stall.

I am happy to say that there were no unforeseen mishaps in the sewing room yesterday.    Time was spent sewing and not picking up spilled items off the floor as was the case earlier on in the week.

This week in the sewing room

A quick thank you gift was made for a friend who handed over a big bag of yarn to me.

I can see lots of beanies in the future from what she handed over so a start was made on casting on another 4.

A couple more small quilts were finished off

Thinking that I will just quickly pin something on the floor did not quite work out as planned.   I was side tracked, walked out of the room only to return pick up fabric off the floor forgetting that the pins were on the fabric.

After picking up all the pins it was time to return the cutting board to my sewing table and in the process knocked the thread rack off the table.

Once that was cleaned up it was time to walk out of the sewing room.

Finishing up bits and pieces and FNwF

The bibs that were cut out a couple of weeks ago are now finished, packed and ready to go to the November hospital auxiliary stall tomorrow morning.

Along with a few pot holders

Another small quilt was finished off.

Some reading matter

This month's book club book.

2 pom poms were all that was achieved when joining in with Cheryll and the other crafters for FNwF.

Fiddle muffs

Ended up being  my Chookshed  # 8 challenge.  As mentioned in my post at the beginning of the month fiddle muffs were a mystery to me but after some research 11 were made and handed over to our Sales Manager for distribution to dementia patients in various nursing homes.     There is just as many objects inside the muffs as on the outside.

There is still quite a supply of bits and bobs left over for future fiddle muffs especially empty thread reels.

That now completes the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge.   Thank you Deana for organising the challenge each month.

A mini Sewcation and FNSI

Back in April I gave myself a three day "sewcation" with the view of having another one soon however the year has just skidded by and somehow it did not happen until the other day when my Tuesday afternoon quilt group was cancelled so I saw this as the opportunity to turn it into a mini sewcation for a day and as there were no pressing matters that needed to be attended to on the Wednesday morning it turned out to be a day and half of uninterrupted sewing.  This is what was achieved

Two small quilts bound

Three small quilts had their borders sewn on

As the supply of bibs for the hospital auxiliary stall is running low it was time to cut more out

Lining up the left over fabrics from the bibs to cut more squares while in cutting mode.

A pile of  cut squares on the right side of the photo and left over left overs for the scrap baskets on the left side of the photo.

Three beanies that had been knitted but just needed their pom poms made and attached.

And while the sewcation was happening this audio book was playing alongside me.

I was pleased with my sudden and unexpected mini sewcation and what was achieved.   I cannot see another one happening until next year but who knows.

When joining in with FNSI 3 more beanies were cast onto the needles.
