Farewell Flight

Whilst on my walk today I witnessed the last Boeing 747 taking a final spin around Sydney.   Qantas is retiring its entire 747 fleet.   It has two more flyovers - one in Brisbane and Canberra before heading off to the aircraft graveyard in the US.

Hubs and I together with our family were lucky enough to have been passengers on VH-OEJ - Longreach -  many times in years gone by.     While we enjoyed our holidays it was always a delight to fly over Sydney harbour in our national airline.

The last batch of skirts were delivered to me during the week.   This lot have been pre-cut so it is just a matter of putting them through the overlocker and finishing off with the machine.

They are mixed sizes so I will need to keep my wits about me when cutting the elastic for the waist and setting the hemline.

Time to have a play with some Christmas fabrics for the Christmas in July blog hop.

Back soon and in the meantime

Happy sewing all

I did see about the planes on the news but I guess we won't see the flights out here.... quite a thing. Its amazing that they get a graveyard in another country.

It wont take you too long to do the skirts I'm sure and I'm looking forward to your Christmas project

Those are pretty cute Christmas fabrics. It will be fun to see how you use them for the hop!

Making skirts would stress me out. I am not knowledgeable when it come to sewing clothes.

So many planes are no longer in use and sitting in the desert. I heard they are no longer making A380s. I am looking forward to seeing your Christmas project.

Glad you enjoyed the flight, bit sad to see aircraft no longer in use, and it must be quite a sight to see the graveyard! Good work with making the skirts, I would be interested in hearing more about this.

That's a very cool photo. The last flight before it heads across the pacific is on Wednesday. It's going to do a low level fly over Shellharbour airport where the out-of-commission 747 lives with HARS then, via Longreach and then on to LAX.
Qantas pilots (who have flown the 747's) have been invited to be at HARS on Wednesday wearing their old uniforms. They're hoping to have an assortment of older uniforms represented. Hubby is going to get his old one out of storage and is hoping it still fits :D
