A bit of this and a bit of that

But not much sewing has been happening around here this past week.    I did manage to finish off two beanies

The new book club book  has been distributed.     Truganini  was one of the last native speakers of the Tasmanian languages and one of the last individuals solely of Aboriginal descent.

Waiting at Manly to catch the ferry into the city

Front row seats on the ferry

Coming into Circular Quay.    This is one of my favourite spots in the City.   In the front of the photo the very low brick buildings at water level are some of the old wool stores and in the background you can see Crown Towers - the very tall shiny cone like shape building....such a contrast from old Sydney to the modern.

The purpose of our trip was to visit

And see the Archibald Prize entries.    This is an annual event with the first prize given in 1921.     This year's winning entry Head in the Sky, feet on the ground  and was interesting from the point of view that it was made up of  oil, found textiles and embroidery on canvas.

While at the Art Gallery we did go and see the Sydney Modern Art Project which is a new section alongside the original gallery.     There are several exibitions but the main one that I was interested in seeing was the one in the underground former wartime oil bunker.     This exibition is almost completely in the dark.   It does have some moving lights that are up very high that move randomly around the bunker seeking, locating and following their own paths and patterns.    The sculptures are described as "traumatised objects" and you have to agree.   I tried taking one photo to see how it came out but it was not really successful as you could not use a flash.   You can read more about here.

Another interesting exhibition on the roof top was called "Walking Men".

We thoroughly enjoyed our day at both galleries.

Back to my quilt - which is not really going to my liking so I see some unpicking in my near future and a re-think of how to quilt it.    More on that later.

Time to go and have a coffee and then pack some things to do at quilting group this afternoon.   It will not be unpicking.

Back soon and in the meantime

Happy sewing all

A ferry trip from Manly to the Quay would be lovely - especially on a sunny day.

That is an interesting-sounding book - a change from the last one?? (LOL)
