It is happening

My goal for this month was to get the first three rows of my QAYG circles completed and I am happy to say that I have managed to get 6 rows done.

And I have even made a start on getting the next three rows joined and partly quilted.

I even surprised myself with such progress.   The quilt has now gotten to the "too big" for my sewing table that I have had to move from my sewing room and onto our large dining table in order to get the support needed for the weight.    This QAYG method is working out and is going to be the method used from now on.     No more trying to push and shove large amounts of fabric through the machine throat.

Thanks Patty for keeping us on track with our monthly goals and if you would like to see what others have achieved in the last month pop on over to Elm Street  Quilts.

Back soon with some photos of more rows together and quilted and in the meantime

Secret sewing

Is now finished and has been delivered.      Nothing like getting an idea in the middle of the night very close to a birthday and having to execute it in a few hours.     Last week when going through my fabrics for something else as one does from time to time I had this brilliant idea to make a mug rug to go with a birthday gift.     And seeing that it is the Year of the Rooster and the birthday girl concerned is a Rooster according to Chinese astrology it seemed appropriate.

During the week I was walking through a fabric store and some fabric jumped right out and said "make a beach bag out of me".    What could I say but add it to the secret sewing list also.  I did not have a pattern for the bag but a quick "google" soon answered size and a few other questions.     I really made two bags - one inside the other - and just poked the belting used for the handles down between the two and stitched around the top and again about 3/4" below the first row to secure the handles well because as you know beach bags tend to get a lot of things stuffed into them.    I also put one large pocket secured at the top with velco and two smaller pockets on the inside to keep car keys safe as well as sunscreen and bottles of water upright.   The bottom of the bag is boxed.    I was very happy with the result and the birthday girl was too.

With all this hot weather that we have been having it was a good opportunity to start FNSI early and get some fabric pre-washing done.   I know that it is hard to think winter clothes but the cool weather will be here one day and I want to be ready.

The flannette is for pj pants and the others will be tops, cardigans and long pants for Miss M.    My overlocker will be working overtime soon.     Maybe the weather will have cooled down enough by next month's FNSI to start making the clothes.

Thanks Wendy for another fun night.  Linking with Oh Scrap

30 Day Check-in

It is just over 30 days since I signed up to join in the 100 day challenge back in early January and the 3 items that I listed were firstly  my 365 daily circles which I will endeavour to at least get all the blocks sewn together, secondly will be to finish off the rainbow scrap quilt and next on my list is to make a new bag for myself.

Confession time - I have now sewn 6 rows together and they are all quilted - only 15 rows left to join up and quilt as I go.

Moving on to my next goal of the rainbow quilt.   Sadly it is still sitting in exactly the same position as it was a month ago.   What can I say!  Next on the list is my bag which I can report  is finished and has attracted quite a few admiring comments when used a couple of times this week.

I will be interested to see what progress is made with my goals during the next 30 days when I next report back on this challenge.

I have a little bit of secret sewing to do over the next week using these fabrics.

You can see how everyone else is progressing with their goals for the 100 day challenge over at Quilter in the Closet.

FNwF

My goal last night was to finish off my new tote bag ready to use  for when I go out with the girls this week.   I like to have easily accessible pockets on the outside - both the front and back of the bag as well as the the sides - for slipping such things as mobile phones, travel tickets and other bits and pieces that you are frequently going to use but need secure.    On the inside there is one large pocket secured at the top with velcro and two smaller pockets for holding glasses,  tissues and other essentials that need to come along with me.

Thanks Cheryll for hosting FNwF again.

What is happening

Nothing.....it is official that January has been the hottest on record and I have not been able to think sewing especially quilting as I am now up the stage of having to have the iron on in my sewing room and no more heat is needed so everything has come to a stand still.  Very frustrating to have the time to sew and not being able to get stuck into it.   Being the first of February means that it is time to set a goal for the month and me thinks that there is more heat to come so I will not be too ambitious and just try to quilt the first three rows of my 366 circles.    So far it is pinned and ready to go under the walking foot.

This is the first time that I have done QAYG and if it works out as I think then it will not be last -hopefully.

Back soon and in the meantime
