Hidden wells

Is the block that was chosen by the events co-ordinator at my quilt group for our charity quilt this year.    Each member is going to make 2 blocks and we were given 4 strips of the focus fabric.

Then we chose  12 different fabric strips and just to shake things up a bit the focus fabric had to be moved into a different position as the strips were sewn together.

And this is the final result of all that sewing, cutting and moving around.

I will be interested to see how this all ends up when everyone's blocks are all sewn together.  Photos to follow once the quilt is finished.

After completing my two blocks I had sometime to start on my 4  patch blocks for the fairy quilt.

It is a start........

At the beginning of the month my March OMG  was to make a start on the winter weight quilt for Miss M and yes I did make a start - today.    Hubs is  having a boy's day out which gave me the opportunity to iron all those pre-washed fabrics and cut them up.    I have decided to go "simple" as I want the fabric to be the feature  not the design.     With that in mind I have fussy cut the fairy fabric into 6 1/2" squares for a 6" finish and I will be alternating the fairies with  4 patch blocks - these patches are cut at 3 1/2" each for 6" block finish.

There are still a couple of days left in March and I am hoping to make a start on sewing  the 4 patch blocks.

Bibs and other things

Last month I told you that I was going to make either a Sunbonnet Sue or Sam wall hanging  for a friend's new grandchild which was due early March but the new parents did not want to know what they were having so I had to wait before making that decision.   Well they had another girl and that got me thinking that perhaps  I  should make something else for the new bub so that big sister felt a bit special and had something different as her gift from us.    Big sisters can sometimes feel a" bit left out" when a new baby arrives on the scene so with that in mind I decided to make a couple of patchwork bibs instead.  It was interesting to think back when cutting up the fabric what it was left over from.

I used this pattern for Miss M when making her bibs a few years ago and found that they were a good size and the velcro fastening can be adjusted as necks grow.   I put flannelette on the back which is soft and also absorbent.

Next  item on my list in the sewing room was some in-between long pants for Miss M now that we are in autumn although the temps are far from autumnal but the time will come and it will be a bit too cool for shorts and twirly skirts.   I had already made another pink pair but forgot to photograph them before handing them over.  Miss M requested pockets in these as we all know that 3 year olds have many treasures which need to go with them during the day.

Next on the list is to start cutting out the fabric for Miss M's winter quilt.    I hope to make a start on that tomorrow.

The last stitch

Has been put into my daily circle quilt.  Nothing was going to come between me and a finish today and seeing that it is FNSI tonight I headed straight  to my sewing room after breakfast to make an early start just in case the day came "crashing down" around me again.   Yahooo!!!!   Here it is.   The photo shoot was done inside due to the size of the quilt and also it is raining.

Some statistics regarding the quilt -

Each square was cut 4 ½” to finish at 4”.    There are 366 squares with 3" circles on them which represents something that I did or happened each day.       There are  12 squares with letters on them to represent the beginning of each month making a total of 378 squares.   The quilt ended up being 72” x  84”.       I joined 3 rows at a time,  quilted them  then joined the backing and next three rows using the QAYG method without sashing as I wanted to see the whole year complete rather than looking at smaller sections that would have been created if  sashing  had been used and therefore broken that continuity.

I found out about 365 daily circles while doing some blog hopping and  started  the first of my circles back in March 2016 making this a 12 month project.    I did find it very “addictive” and really enjoyed having an excuse to play around with my scraps to find the “right” piece to represent each day.     The process of putting it together  became very boring towards the end and I was  pleased to put in the last stitch.      I knew while making  the  blocks and leaving the construction all to the end would be  major work but I was not sure how I wanted to put the blocks together.    At one stage the thought was to  put 6 months on the front and 6 months on the back and then one day there was a “light bulb” moment  when I saw  a scrap piece of fabric with letters on it which then gave me the idea to use those letters to represent each month to create a "calendar".    It is  named  “This was 2016”.

On a mission.......

To get this daily circle quilt finished.    I had hoped to have it finished over the  weekend but life happens and  the best made plans do not happen.    I have now finished the quilting and just need to put on the binding and it is done!!!!!!

This will happen by the end of the weekend....hopefully and I can show you the whole of my 366 daily circles completed.

60 Day check-in

It is around 60 days since I signed up for the 100 day challenge and about 30 days since I last gave a progress report.    During the last 30 days I have managed to get all 21 rows of the 365 daily circle quilt joined with only the last 3 rows left to quilt.    I am now at the point of "just wanting to get it finished" and all my spare time is now spent quilting.      It is quite boring just following that "thin ivory line" of thread but the end is in sight.

Now onto my third item originally listed which was the rainbow quilt....... it is still sitting folded in the same position that it has been for a few months  looking very neglected.

See what I mean.  I still have about 40 days left so something could happen with it........maybe!

On my way up to my sewing room today I just happened to notice a very large green grub munching its way through one of my plants.

After removing this one I found 3 more all enjoying a "late breakfast".

Last night I took the opportunity to work a bit more on joining up the rows and quilting as I go on my 365 daily circles.    I now have 15 rows joined together and quilted which  leaves 6 rows left to work on.

Earlier in the day I had some time to pre-wash the fabric for Miss M's quilt which is now hanging in the garage trying to dry off .     After all the intense heat of the last couple of months we now have a "big wet" which is expected to last until the end of the week.

March OMG

The time has come to sign up for this month's OMG and this month my mission is to make a start on a winter weight quilt for Miss M's bed.    I took her "shopping" in my stash over the weekend and this is what we found

I have a few ideas for a pattern....something that is not going to chop up the fairy fabric too much.
